Birthday Party Planning with Jennifer Douglas

by Chris Cate

Birthday Party Planning with Jennifer Douglas

This week’s guest is Jennifer Douglas, a mom of two and the creative mind behind Goldfish and Chicken Nuggets. After reading Jen’s blog post on The Hot Mess Mom’s Guide to Throwing Your Kid A Solid Birthday Party, I knew she would be a great guest to help break down pro tips for birthday party planning.

In our conversation, we talk about when kids should start having birthday parties with friends, how long the parties should last, good locations for a party, what to eat, gift ideas for guests and much more. I also ask Jen about her time as team captain for UCLA swimming and representing Canada on the National swim team. So cool, right?

You can find all of Jen’s hilarious thoughts about parenthood on her website Goldfish and Chicken Nuggets and on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

About Breaking Down Parenting: A ParentNormal Podcast

Breaking Down Parenting: A ParentNormal Podcast is a show that’s for imperfect parents by imperfect parents. Hosted by humorist and imperfect parent of three Chris Cate, every episode breaks down a topic that causes parents to break down, such as putting kids to bed, potty training, the terrible twos, homework, clothing, discipline, cleaning up, cooking for kids, and so on….

By the end of each topic breakdown, parents will hopefully realize they aren’t alone in their struggles and that the craziness all parents go through is actually quite funny when it’s looked at in the right light. After all, the mission of the show is to help parents laugh when they want to cry.

Breaking Down Parenting: A ParentNormal Podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Google and Spotify.

Breaking Down Bath Time with Andy Herald from How to Be a Dad

by Chris Cate

Breaking Down Bath Time with Andy Herald from How to Be a Dad 1

This week, Andy Herald, a father of three and the creative mind behind How to Be a Dad, joins me to break down bath time. In our conversation, we talk about how kids hate to get in the bathtub as much as they hate to get out of a bathtub. We also talk about the floods kids make while in the bath, disgusting bath toys, how often most parents bathe kids and much more. You can even hear how Andy compares bathing a baby to mountain climbing.

Andy creates some of the funniest and best looking memes, diagrams and illustrations online. You can find his work on www.howtobeadad.com. You can also find his work on social media on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

This week, Stephanie Jankowski, a teacher and mom of three, joins me to break down what teachers really think of their students. In our conversation, we also talk about what parents don’t realize about the job of a teacher, how teaching goes beyond what’s in a textbook, memorable stories from the classroom, parent/teacher conferences and much more.

Stephanie’s new book Schooled: A Love Letter to the Exhausting, Infuriating, Occasionally Excruciating Yet Somehow Completely Wonderful Profession of Teaching is wonderful and now available. You can find more about Stephanie and her writing on whencrazymeetsexhaustion.com and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Editing Video with Adobe Premiere Elements 2020

by Chris Cate

One of the best things about phones today is it’s so easy to shoot video on them. When my daughter was born, I had to lug around a video camera and choose carefully when I wanted to record. But now that I can use my phone, I shoot video everywhere. The only problem is editing all of the clips together into something more than erratic clips. Thankfully, I have Adobe Premiere Elements 2020 to help.

Adobe Premiere Elements 2020 has made it easy for me to go back and edit videos that have been sitting on my phone, like clips of my son playing soccer this year. It’s simple to make video edits, add audio, transitions and text too.

Editing Video with Adobe Premiere Elements 2020

There are so many great features included with Adobe Premiere Elements 2020:

  • Highlight memorable moments with beautiful effects, slideshows, and collages powered by the Adobe Sensei AI technology
  • Learn quickly with tutorials
  • Improve grainy low-light clips with the Reduce Noise effect
  • Make time-lapse videos, animate skies in photos and more with the help of Guided Edits
  • Bring together and customize the best scenes based on the style of your video with Smart Trim
  • Easily make movies in the Quick Edit mode
  • Find videos as effortlessly as photos with the Adobe Sensei-powered smart tags and automatic people recognition
  • Create bounce-back and animated sky GIFs to simply share on social media
  • Upload your creations to YouTube or Vimeo, burn DVD, and send them to your HDTV
