This is a very special episode all about parenting fails.
We are now 10 episodes into the show, and if you’ve listened to even a few seconds of the podcast, you know that I am not a parenting expert, nor do I even think it’s possible to be a parenting expert. And that’s really the purpose of this podcast – to show that we’re all imperfect parents and that it’s okay to laugh at how crazy parenting can get for all of us.
I’ve already had some incredible guests on the show. In episode 1, I interviewed Michele Lepe, who most of you know as Nina from the Goodnight Show on Sprout. I’ve interviewed songwriter Laurie Berkner who you’ve probably seen in music videos on Nick Jr. I’ve interviewed two of my favorite comedians who are also dads: Nate Bargatze and Nick Thune.
I’ve interviewed a mother of 16 kids – Lyette Reback. I’ve interviewed authors Greg Pembroke of Reasons My Son is Crying and Jen Mann of People I want to Punch in the Throat. I’ve interviewed Clint Edwards who recently wrote This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things and I’ve talked to the moms from Science of Parenthood about their new book. I even interviewed Greg Page – the original yellow Wiggle about being a dad.
These interviews spanned a variety of parenting topics, but one thing I asked every guest to do was to share a parenting fail. And I’m so glad I did, because the stories they shared were really, really funny. So, I thought, why not put all of these stories into a single episode because they perfectly embody the purpose of this show, which is to entertain and to remind parents that we all make mistakes. We all get stressed, but it’s okay to laugh at the madness.
Every few months I’ll do a similar compilation, but in the meantime, I hope you will subscribe to the show so you’re able to hear the full versions of these interviews and the interviews I have planned for the future.
Enjoy the episode!
About Breaking Down Parenting: A ParentNormal Podcast
Since this episode was originally released, the show has evolved into Breaking Down Parenting: A ParentNormal Podcast. It’s a show that’s for imperfect parents by imperfect parents. Hosted by humorist and imperfect parent of three Chris Cate, every episode breaks down a topic that causes parents to break down, such as putting kids to bed, potty training, the terrible twos, homework, clothing, discipline, cleaning up, cooking for kids, and so on….
By the end of each topic breakdown, parents will hopefully realize they aren’t alone in their struggles and that the craziness all parents go through is actually quite funny when it’s looked at in the right light. After all, the mission of the show is to help parents laugh when they want to cry.
